On February 1, 2014, Norwegian Getaway will begin setting sail year-round from Miami, Florida, AKA “The Magic City,” therefore it is fitting that this ship will feature an unparalleled magical entertainment experience called The Illusionarium on board.
The Illusionarium is unlike any other entertainment experience at sea as it will transport guests in to fascinating world of magic and illusions by world-class magicians and feature supernatural special effects, with the centerpiece of the Illusionarium being a 30’ diameter video dome that will transport audiences to mystical places.
The announcement took place this morning in Miami at the annual Cruise Shipping Miami Conference. Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian’s Chief Executive Officer, shared the details first-hand with a group of travel partners and media who were in attendance at the conference. He was personally thrilled about sharing the details of the show and expressed how he couldn’t wait for them to experience, “The mystical world of magic on board the ship that will embody the vibe of the Magic City.”
The Illusionarium was developed through a partnership with Patricia Wilcox, Tony Award winning scenic designer David Gallo and veteran magician Jeff Hobson. The show’s design is inspired by the science fiction of Jules Verne, the artistry of legendary magicians such as Houdini and the popularity of recent blockbusters featuring supernatural characters.
Also announced today, Norwegian Getaway, like her New York City-based sister, Norwegian Breakaway, will feature a dazzling display of fireworks on every cruise; The Aqua Park with five multi-story water slides, including the Free Fall and the Whip; a three-story sports complex with a multi-level elevated ropes course that will challenge guests to more than 40 different elements, including a zip track, rock climbing wall and mini golf; Spice H20, Vibe Beach Club, and the fan-favorite action-station restaurant, Garden Café.
